TACHYON
My second year in BYU Rocketry, I applied and was selected to be a Structures Engineer in the Junior High Power Team. I used the design skills I learned from my Certification rocket, along with more advanced flight simulation software, to predict the apogee of the rocket within 2.5% accuracy. As a structures engineer, I learned how to build carbon fiber body tubes at our composites lab, which reduced the weight and cost of our rocket significantly. And as a member of a multi-faceted team, I learned how to cooperate with Payload and GNC subteams to fulfill each of our goals. I practiced engineering management skills like Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Gantt Charts to organize the process and improve team function.
